In association with CMI General Social Apostolate CEVA has been implementing & Co-ordinating various projects. In addition to this the Social department s of each Province directly implements development projects.

1. Self Help Group & Literacy
CEVA and Department of General Social Apostolate has been co-ordinating a project titled “Strengthening of Rural Poor through formation of Self Help Groups and Literacy” supported by Italian Bishop’s Conference. The Project is implemented through the various provinces of CMI congregation.. Around 4573 people are benefited by this project. The following Provinces are implementing the project. One hundred and sixty eight SHG’s and sixty eight literacy centers are functioning under this project.
2. TSUNAMI Relief and Rehabilitation Programmes.
CEVA in collaboration with the General Social Apostolate of CMI raised funds from CMI members, institutions, well-wishers and public from India and Abroad to support the victims of Tsunami Tragedy that occurred on 26th December 2004. An amount of 44 lakh was collected and is being used for the rehabilitation of the victims in Kanyakumari District, Alappuzha District and Ernakulam District. CEVA is coordinating the whole programme. The project is being implemented by our three partner organizations.
3. Relief Project for the Earthquake Victims of Gujrat
CEVA’s response to the devastating earth quake that rocked Gujarat on the republic day of 2001was spontaneous. CEVA in association with the Social Apostolate of CMI congreation had raised an amount of Rs.1,11,500 and contributed to a KUTCH Vikas Trust – a local NGO. Based on the recommendation of CEVA, KKS sanctioned a Major Project for the rehabilitation of the victims.
4. Relief & Rehabilitation project for the Flood Victims of Orissa
As a response to the Killer Cyclone in Orissa, CEVA team visited the worst affected villages. CEVA was able to raise about Rs.2,00,000. f rom its friends,CMI Provinces and the staff. Rs.1,00,000. was used with the support of AKSS (Angeli Kenjes-Wari Sanskrutika) a local NGO to assist about 2550 individuals with clothing, food, medicines and school uniforms. With the remaining amount 45 Families were organized into Self Help Groups and were assisted to start seven types of income generation programmes as per each ones interest and competence. KKS also sanctioned a relief project for the victims.
5. Housing projects
CEVA co-operated with Bro.Maurs of CMI Congregation in his efforts to provide a dignified existence to the poor and the marginalized. An amount of Rs.1,43,966was channelised through CEVA to construct 6 houses and to renovate 10 houses in P & T Colony, Gandhi Nagar, Ernakulam..
6. Gyan Jyoti Literacy Campaign
The General Synaxis of the CMI congregation, on September 1996 decided to start literacy campaign as one of their priority areas. The Litercay campaign Gyan Jyoti was launched on January 3rd 1997 and was implemented by CEVA. Gyan Jyoti was a concerted effort to co-operate with the National Literacy Mission by mobilizing volunteers, social and religious groups and non-governmental organizations in order wipe out the blot of illiteracy from the face of India. The ultimate objective of the project was promotion of human development The project was continued up to 2003.
7. Kerala Social Volunteers Corps
Cebemo, Holland sanctioned this project to the General Department of Social Apostolate of the CMI Congregation. As per an agreement with CEBEMO, the project was undertaken by CEVA. The Project operated in 10 rural centers in Keral and trained about 500 men and women for social action and rural development
8. Social activities of the CMI Provinces
Nearly 185 Social Service Centers are spread over in 13 CMI Provinces , Regions and Mission Stations in India and abroad to cater to the various needs of the people like Housing and Livelihood, Literacy and Education, Health and Hygien, /Vocational training and Agricultural Development Programmes. Most of the centers concentrate on the development of weaker sections of the society like Scheduled Tribes and Castes, Women and Child, Aged etc. During 2002-2005 , one hundred and fifty three houses were built to the houseless, 2319 self Help Groups were formed, Scholarship to 3273 poor students, Marriage Fund to 130 girls, Employment to 690 youth were given. Presently there are 12 hospitals and 36 dispensaries to meet the various health issues of the people. It includes general and specialized services, allopathic as well as indigenous health system covering preventive and curative aspects. Rural area health services are given prime focus. Through 21 specialized institutions we are giving support services to nearly 1125 persons with Physical Challenges, mental retardation, orphans and Destitutes. |
